What We Do

What Do We Do?

Outreach We share Mumbai’s marine world through our Instagram community, and on the ground through walks on shores, in mangroves, and at fish landing centres — bringing people face to face with the city’s coastal life.

Education We partner with schools and colleges to create meaningful engagements for students of all ages. This ranges from an hour-long introduction to marine life for young students, to shadow puppetry storytelling sessions for pre-primary children, to month-long CAS activities for IB students — tailored to every stage of learning.

Baseline Data Collection MLOM hosts an open-access database of intertidal marine biodiversity observations from across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, available on iNaturalist. With over 14,000 observations of more than 700 species, it is the longest running marine biodiversity monitoring project in the country. All data is open-source and freely downloadable for non-commercial use under a Creative Commons licence.

Citizen Science We believe that community involvement is central to any meaningful conservation effort. By inviting citizens of Mumbai to participate in data documentation, we give people a direct role in understanding and protecting the marine environment on their doorstep.
